Dahlonega Named Appalachian Trail Community

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the preservation and management of the natural, scenic, historic, and cultural resources associated with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in order to provide primitive outdoor-recreation and educational opportunities for Trail visitors.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s next steps are to work with the leadership team responsible for submitting Dahlonega’s application and publicly celebrate the City’s designation.

The Appalachian Trail Communities Award is designed to:

  • Thank trailside communities for the decades of service they have provided to hikers,
  • Recognize those communities who are taking extra steps to promote the asset of the A.T. in their backyards,
  • Communicate ways to engage the next generation of trail stewards,
  • Support community initiatives for sustainable economic development and conservation planning.
