2010 Winner of the Georgia Downtown Association’s Award of Excellence in Downtown Development

The purpose of the award is to recognize, honor and promote the outstanding achievement of one of Georgia’s 100 downtown development agencies. The Selection Committee consists of a mix of historic preservation professionals, representatives from the Georgia Downtown Association, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Downtown Development staff as well as public and private sector partners.

The award was presented at the Georgia Downtown Conference Awards Ceremony in Augusta, Georgia.

Dahlonega Mayor Gary McCullough explains, “This award is a tremendous honor. A city does not achieve this level of success overnight or even in a few years. Dahlonega is successful because it has 40 years of vision and commitment to preserving the historic central business district and making it the center of economic development for the county and the region. Dozens of local leaders in those 40 years have worked together to protect and sustain a downtown that attracts investment and values history.”
